Welcome to the UMass Life Sciences Teaching/Technology SIG

Purpose

While "the Life Sciences SIG's" precise mission and goals should be spelled out by the members as we progress, this initial call reflects the following purposes:

1. Share information concerning uses of emerging and established instructional technologies;
2. Deliberate and demonstrate best practices in the use of these technologies;
3. Explore avenues for collaboration in such areas as:

  • Grant seeking
  • Assessment practices
  • Technology procurement and licensing
  • Faculty development seminars and symposia

We invite faculty and staff members who are interested to a Life Sciences SIG plenary meeting: Friday, May 2, 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., University of Massachusetts Worcester. At that meeting, assuming your favorable response, we shall explore the establishment of a SIG and make plans for a symposium on teaching, learning, and instructional technology in the Life Sciences at UMass in the fall of 2008 (excerpted from the Call for a Life Sciences Collaborative, April 11, 2008).
